At seventeen, Mounir Sakho was searching for clarity — about himself, his work, and the kind of designer he wanted to become. While exploring a book of African textiles assembled by his mother, one fabric stood apart. It was labeled Lumière. When he asked what it meant, she told him: "It represents you."
Mounir — meaning light.
That moment did not inspire a visual language. It provided definition.
Lumère designs clothing as a system of presence; built on tailored authority, material discipline, and symbolic restraint.
About the Founder
Lumère was founded by Mounir Sakho. Raised in Sutton Place, Mounir grew up in an environment defined by quiet authority rather than spectacle. By his early twenties, he had designed retail environments on Madison Avenue and led major real estate projects across New York.
